P.S. Kumarasamy Raja (1898-1957)

P.S. Kumarasamy Raja was the third Chief Minister of Madras State after Independence

Sri. P.S Kumaraswami Raja was born in 1898.
His father is Poosapati Sanjeevi Raja. His mother expired when he was eight days old. He lost his father when he was three years old. Raja had no brother and sister. Brought up by his grand mother.

Studied FORM-III in an Anglo-Vernacular School. In 1912 he married at his age of 14. Joined in High school at Srivilliputur in 1913. Newspapers and Journals engaged him more than his class text books. He stopped his studies on 1919

Kumarasamy Raja became a Gandhian in 1919. He founded Gandhi Kalai Mandram.

An outspoken political administrator who would always call a spade a spade, he introduced one major reform, but one little remembered today in connection with his stewardship. This was the separation of the Judiciary from the Executive, which was to be scrupulously followed in the rest of India later.

1949 - 52

When Mahatma Gandhi was touring Tamilnadu, he stayed at Rajapalayam in the house of Kumarasami Raja

In 1947, Thiru P.S. Kumarasamy Raja, laid the foundation for V.O.Chidambaram College in Thoothukudi.
