Ayyanar Falls s is located on the slope of Western Ghats 13 KM away from city towards west. There are quite few waterfalls in the forest. It is a sanctuary for Grizzled Squirrel and Varaiyadu goat, so it is protected from the public use. A small reservoir is situated on the way to Ayyanar falls which is providing water for the whole city. Ayyanar Koil There is a temple for Lord Ayyanar which is open for public. It is situated on the base of the western ghats.

Shenbagathope Grizelled Squirrel Sanctuary is located in Shenbgathopue near Srivilliputur. The forest area lies on the eastern slopes of the Western Ghats. It is spread over 480 sq. kms. The altitude varies from 100m to 2010 m above sea level. Forest Rest Houses are available at Mudungiar, Pudupatti and Mudaliaroothu. This sanctuary was established in the year 1989 to protect the endangered grizzled squirrel also known as Srilankan Giant Squirrel ( Species : Ratufa macroura ) . Other inhabitants of the sanctuary are elephants, tiger, leopard, Nilgiri thar, spotted deer, barking deer, sambar deer. Various birds, mammals and reptiles are found. Grizzled Squirrel - Ratufa macrouraThey are greyish brown squirrel. The dorsal surface of the tail is greyish brown with distinct white highlights, giving a grizzled appearance. It weighs 1 to 2 kg. It measures about 73.5 cms. from nose to tail.
